ORGANIC & HYBRID PROGRAMS
Lawrence Landscape's Organic and Hybrid Programs will help reduce or eliminate pesticide use on your lawn. We have two options for those customers that are looking to keep a beautiful lawn, but are wanting to be more environmentally friendly. Starting in the Spring of 2009, a 100% Organic program and a Hybrid program will be options to customers.
100% Organic
The 100% Organic program is a plan that consists of two separate fertilizers that are alternated each application. One of the products is Corn Gluten. Corn Gluten is a byproduct of the corn milling process. As a fertilizer, it is a 9% nitrogen by weight. It has also been shown to have pre-emergent qualities. The other product is an alfalfa based fertilizer. It is 3% Nitrogen by weight. The 100% Organic program does not include any herbicides or insecticides. Weeds and insects are likely to be more evident using this progam than in those lawns that are treated with pesticides. Initially organic fertilizers do not offer the quick green-up and growth that is often associated with synthetic fertilizers. Organic fertilizers benefit grass and plants by building the amount of bio material in the soil. This process may take upwards of 3 years before the full benefits are observed. Past observations show that soils high in bio material require less water and have fewer pests. We recommend using the 100% Organic program for a minimum of 3 years. For very poor lawns, a season of using the Hybrid program may be a good transition.
HYBRID
The Hybrid program is a way for customers to gradually implement organic fertilizers into their lawns. This program consists of a fertilizer that is 50% organic. The organic material is derived from poultry byproducts. As with our traditional program, weed control will be included. A pre-emergent herbicide will be a part of the Early Spring Application. Weeds that appear throughout the year will be spot-sprayed. As with other programs, the grub application remains the choice of the customer. The Hybrid program is a great way to transition to the 100% Organic program from the Traditional program.
