Bruce grew up in Abilene, Kansas. He graduated from Abilene High School.
He spent his summers working in the family business of landscaping and swimming pool construction. After attending Kansas University, he moved to Southern California and worked in the swimming pool trade and attended night classes at Chapman College in Fullerton.
In 1979, Bruce joined McKee Pools, of Abilene, as a construction supervisor and manager, overseeing all residential and commercial projects throughout Kansas.
In 1985, Bruce and his wife, Nancy, started McKee Pool & Landscape, Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas. The company grew in the construction of residential, commercial and municipal pools and eventually expanded into Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa.
In 2007, Bruce sold his business to Lawrence Landscape, Inc. and continues to work as pool division manager. Even though Bruce has been in the pool construction industry his entire adult life, he has found time to enjoy many outside interests. He enjoys camping and traveling with his family. Other interests include: film, reading, music and home projects. Bruce has also been active in the rural water district, the school district and local politics.
Bruce lives in North Lawrence, with his wife and 4 children.
